P.C. 1007 – Attempted Murder of a Civilian
Description:
Attempted Murder of a Civilian occurs when a non-government individual intentionally attacks another person with the clear intent to kill, but the victim survives. This charge applies when there is evidence of premeditation, lethal force, or actions that would reasonably be expected to cause death.
Examples:
- Shooting at someone with the intent to kill but missing or only injuring them
- Stabbing a person in a vital area with the intent to end their life
- Attempting to run someone over with a vehicle in a targeted attack
Classification:
- Felony
Punishment Guidelines:
- Jail time: 50 minutes
- Fine: $7,500
Notes:
- If the victim dies, escalate to P.C. 1008 – Murder (Second Degree) or P.C. 1010 – Murder (First Degree)
